A WINTER ADVENTURE RACE FOR ALL KIDS AGES 7-17
The Kidarod is inspired by Alaska's famous dog sled race, except with kids doing the work and husky sled teams watching the fun. It combines climbing, pulling, sliding, hiking/running, and fun obstacles into an unforgettable 2-mile winter adventure.

Iditarod History: When diphtheria gripped the village of Nome during the brutal winter of 1925, there was only one hope to save the townspeople. It was to have teams of huskies and their mushers relay the life-saving serum from Anchorage hundreds of miles to Nome. The nation held its breath waiting for progress reports of the slow and nearly impossible trek across the dark and dangerous tundra. But thanks to Togo, a lead dog who pulled the serum 260 miles over 3 days, and Balto the dog who led his team on the final pull into Nome, the town was saved.

Reenacting the original "Race of Mercy": We refer to our startline at the Kidarod as "Anchorage" and our finish line as "Nome". At the start line, you will collect your vile of symbolic serum and protect it along the course until you turn it in at "Nome".

Kidarod Details:

Weather Possibilities: We have held the Kidarod during all kinds of weather conditions from a huge blizzard to very cold and even in balmy 60 degree temps. So be ready for any kind of conditions that February in Minnesota can throw at us.

What to Wear: Be advised that heavy winter jackets and snow pants often become "too warm" for the trek. It's best to dress in layers for winter conditions. Also, wear gloves, shoes with good traction (or boots if snow is deep), and the Kidarod knit hat you'll receive at check-in.

Race Week Email: All registrants will receive an email on race week with updated information and a reminder of your session time.

EXPERIENCE THE GLORY OF EVEREST WITHOUT LEAVING THE TWIN CITIES
REACH YOUR PERSONAL PEAK
ForEverest is a chance for you to get a taste of what it's like to climb Mt. Everest - the world's highest mountain - with our special course at Hyland Hills Ski Area. Everest-like features along the way will make your journey to the summit more fun and memorable.
CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE
Not sure how high you can climb? No problem. ForEverest is for ALL levels of fitness and experience:
  • First-timers with no climbing experience
  • Families with kids (ages 5-7 may climb with a registered teen or adult, kids 8+ may climb solo or with friends)
  • Experienced climbers, hikers or ultra runners

How It Works: All climbers start at ForEverest Basecamp and climb the circuit (4 hills = 525 vertical feet). At the completion of the circuit, you may go to the summit to complete your journey, or you might decide to start another circuit to earn more vertical feet. Your choice. You’ll be recognized for each circuit you complete, and get to track your total vertical feet so you can see how much of Everest you actually climbed!
SELF-SUPPORTED NIGHT CLIMBING OPTION FOR ULTRA RUNNERS & THROUGH HIKERS
Are you training for an ultra or 24+ hour event and desire to keep climbing after nightfall? While our official volunteer support pauses at 10 PM Sunday until 6 AM Monday, you may continue to climb during these hours. Self-supported nighttime climbers must be at least 18 years of age and bring your own light and nutrition. We will have solar lanterns marking the course, with the water station and an outdoor bathroom available for your use. Along the way, you may stamp your own passport for circuits completed to score your vertical feet climbed. Volunteer support returns at 6 AM on Monday.
Participating in ForEverest will get you:
· A date on the calendar to motivate a boost in spring fitness training

· Climbing passport you stamp to score vertical feet achieved

· A beautiful hand-crafted artisan award you build after reaching the summit

· Your award grows for bragging rights based on # of circuits climbed and milestones achieved on way to summit (special 12,000' milestone)

· Amazing photo opps from the highest vistas in the Twin Cities!

· A super engaging environment to inspire a personal best experience
